Cooper Union honors architect for commitment to his craft
Carmi Bee, FAIA, president of RKT&B Architects, has received the John Hejduk Award from the Cooper Union Alumni Association.

The award, established in 2003, is given to an alumnus of the Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture who has made an outstanding contribution to the theory, teaching and/or practice of architecture.

The recipient reflects the passion and commitment that John Hejduk, Cooper Union faculty member from 1974-2000 and Dean of the School of Architecture from 1975-2000, had for architecture.
This year, the Alumni Association selected two recipients; the second is Michael Kwartler, '65.

Bee, who is also a professor emeritus of architectural design at the City College of New York, received his Bachelor of Architecture from Cooper Union in 1967, and his Master of Fine Art (Architecture) from Princeton University in 1970.

His specialty is the design of projects within the urban context, including new, renovated, and restored residential buildings, retail spaces, offices, educational and performance facilities, in New York City and its surrounding area.

As president of RKT&B, Bee is the principal in charge of design. Under his leadership, the firm has completed such notable projects as Cathedral Gardens, New York Methodist Hospital, South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC), the Norma Kamali Building, the Turtle Bay Tower Residences, Riverose Residences in Battery Park City (with Charles Moore), and The Memphis Residences.

RKT&B is an award-winning architectural and planning firm in New York City.

The firm has been designing multifamily housing, schools, theaters, libraries, office buildings and healthcare, recreation and transportation facilities since 1963.
