Kitchen Lighting Can Be Both Useful and Attractive
If you would like to add drama and interest to a room, lighting is one of the best tools that you can use to contribute to the ambiance of a space. You can highlight it, and define it using many different types of lights such as pendant lighting, recessed lighting, or even rope lighting. Of course, your best option is to install your specialty lighting when your home is being built but sometimes that isn't possible, especially if you purchase an existing home. Don't be discouraged though, as many different types of lighting projects can be easily added to a room. If you are a home handyman, you should be able to accomplish most lighting projects on your own, but if you're not, hire a qualified electrician to do your specialty lighting. Remember, it's good practice to always check with your local building department to ensure you have the proper permits and your kitchen lighting, bathroom lighting or whatever project you undertake meets local inspection standards.

One favorite trick of designers is to uplight a room. Using pendant lighting or some inexpensive fixtures with only a simple plug-in is required. There are several different and unique discount lighting fixtures available including small adjustable halogen fixtures that can do wonders for a room. You can set these behind a plant or on top of a special piece of furniture or even behind furniture to throw light on a wall or any other special area in that room.

Another great way to do kitchen lighting is to use under-cabinet lighting that brings light directly to a work surface. This job is best left to an electrician as some specialty switching may be involved. You are best off to have your specialty kitchen lighting operating from one switch. And finally, lampshades, although they are somewhat dated, it is amazing what you can do with them in a room. Tricolored shades can be worked in with your décor as might a shade that is lined with a metallic finish. You are limited only by your imagination when it comes to installing specialty lighting in that special room!
